Customs Court seeks charge sheet against suspects involved in foreign currency smuggling

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has directed investigation officer to submit charge sheet against suspects, Haji Abdul Sattar Koshka, son of Muhammad Haji and Salima Sattar wife of Abdul Sattar Koshka. The suspects were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle/ non-duty paid contraband foreign currency.

During the hearing, investigation officer sought time to submit a charge sheet against the suspects, therefore, the court granted time and adjourned the matter.

On last date of hearing, the investigation officer produced the suspects before the judicial magistrate Malir and submitted that the staff of the model customs Collectorate Preventive intercepted the suspects at Jinnah International Airport Karachi and recovered 357,845 dirham, 70,000 Saudi Riyal and 2,710 Pakistani rupees from them.

He informed the court that the suspects were trying to smuggle the money to Pakistan from a foreign country. He also submitted that during the investigation, customs officials asked the suspects about legal documents, but they failed to produce any legal and lawful documents before the authorities concerned.

Therefore, currency was seized and they were arrested by officials of the customs authorities and case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 139 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 8, 89, 90 of section a56 (i) ibid read with state bank of Pakistan notification no F.E 1/2015-SB dated 01/06/2015 complaint by Muhammad Asim Nawaz, officer of model customs Collectorte Preventive Customs House Karachi.

After the hearing, court had sent them to jail on judicial remand and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against them within reasonable period.
