Trade turnover between Russia and Sudan to increase by 87% in 2017

MOSCOW: Trade turnover between Russia and Sudan will increase by 87% in 2017 as compared to 2016 to $289.6 mln, press service of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources said referring to Minister Sergei Donskoy.

According to Donskoy, the key mechanism for cooperation between the two countries is the intergovernmental Russian-Sudan Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation. Experts from the two countries work together in finance, nature management, agriculture and industry. “There are good prospects for developing cooperation in energy, transport, science and education, as well as in terms of infrastructure projects and agriculture,” Donskoy said.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, in 2016 the trade turnover between Russia and Sudan amounted to $152.3 mln. At the same time, according to the Russian Federal Customs Service, this figure reached $232 mln. Russia’s exports to Sudan in 2016, according to the Federal Customs Service, reached $231.6 mln. Its main items include engineering, electrical equipment and building materials. Imports amounted to around $400,000. Russia buys cotton, peanuts, sesame. Sudan show interest in supplies of products of Russian aviation and automobile enterprises, various consumer goods, grain. A part of Russian goods goes to Sudan through intermediary firms in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
