KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon on Saturday filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Sindh High Court (SHC) decision to reject his bail in a reference pertaining to the award of advertisements at ‘exorbitant rates’ through the abuse of his power.

The application says that Memon should be granted bail since the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) does not have any evidence against him. It also says that his arrest is in contradiction with accountability laws.

The application claims that the complaint against Memon was submitted by Zeenat Jehan to NAB only five days after he took office as the provincial minister. The complaint was regarding transfers, postings and harassment and cannot be used to initiate a corruption investigation, the application says.

Memon requested the SC to set aside the SHC decision, adding that the apex court has already issued an interim bail to another accused – Inaam Akbar – in the case.
