Customs Court approves remand of suspect in mobile phones smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti Smuggling has approved a 14-day judicial remand of a suspect who was arrested in a mobile phones smuggling case in Lahore.

According to details, the suspect, identified as Muhammad Nawaz, an Afghan citizen, was arrested by the customs intelligence authorities from Lahore when he was coming to supply a huge quantity of smuggled cell phones to Hall Road Market.

The Customs Intelligence recovered a huge quantity of smuggled and non-custom paid mobile phones from his possession. The Customs Intelligence also recovered accessories of mobile phones from him.

Worth of the recovered items is more than Rs7 million in the local market. The accused have made a huge loss to the national kitty in the wake of duty and taxes.

Customs investigation team produced the accused before the customs court for getting their physical remand to investigate more on the issue that was approved by the court. After completion of the physical remand he was produced again before the court.

Customs Investigation team asked for his more remand but the Customs Court sent him to jail on judicial remand. Customs judge Tahir Sabir has approved his remand for 14 days. Customs has registered a case against the accused and launched investigation as well after confiscating the smuggled goods. Customs has registered a case against him under Pakistan Customs Act 1969.
