US brass mill imports, exports rise in October: CBFC

NEW YORK: US imports and exports of brass mill products increased in October compared with the corresponding 2016 period, according Copper & Brass Fabricators Council data.

US imports of brass mill products in October totaled 41.2 million lb compared with 38.6 million lb in October 2016, an increase of nearly 7%, the Washington-based trade group said in a report Monday.

US exports totaled 22.44 million lb in October, up from 22.40 million lb in October 2016, an increase of nearly 0.2%.

January through October, US imports of brass mill products totaled 414.2 million lb compared with 384.7 million lb through January-October 2016, an 8% increase.

US exports totaled 222.9 million lb year to date through October compared with 203.4 million lb in the same 2016 period, an increase of nearly 10%, according to CBFC data.

Mexico was the leading destination for US brass mill exports in October at 9.5 million lb, followed by Canada at 6.8 million lb, China at 1.3 million lb, Hong Kong at 614,265 lb and Germany at 411,109 lb.

October imports from Germany totaled 10.1 million lb, followed by Mexico at 4.7 million lb, Canada at 3.8 million lb, South Korea at 3.4 million lb, and China at 2.2 million lb, the CBFC said.

US imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 15.1 million lb in October, while exports of those products totaled 9.3 million lb.

Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 13.6 million lb in October, while pipe and tube exports totaled 3.4 million lb.

October imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 9.2 million lb, while exports totaled 7.6 million lb, according to the CBFC.

US imports of copper alloy wire totaled 3.1 million lb in October, while exports totaled 1.9 million lb.

Brass mill products are widely used in building construction, automotive products and in electronic and electrical applications.
