MADRID: Spain’s trade deficit rose 39.9 percent January to October from a year earlier as imports, lifted by rising domestic demand and imported energy products, outstripped exports, the Economy Ministry said on Friday.
The trade deficit in the first ten months of the year was 21.1 billion euros ($25.0 billion) as exports rose 9.3 percent to 229.8 billion euros and imports were up 11.3 percent to 250.9 billion euros.
In October, the deficit rose 37 percent from a year earlier to 2.5 billion euros as exports rose 11.2 percent to 24.2 billion euros while imports rose 13.2 percent to 26.8 billion euros, the ministry said.
