Project launched to develop new cotton varieties

LAHORE: Agriculture department has launched a project for development of new cotton varieties to boost the yield of the commodity. A spokesman for the department said on Sunday that new varieties would be resistant against different types of cotton worms, cotton leaf curl virus, different weeds and climate change.

Under this project, bio-technology laboratory and transformation system would be established, he added. He said the project would cost about Rs 363 million, titled “Commissioned Research for Development of Cotton Seed”.
