FBR collecting data of non-taxpayer govt employess

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has started collecting data of all government officials having taxable income to issue notices for non-filing of income tax returns.

In this regard the FBR has asked all secretaries/additional secretaries incharge/heads of attached departments/ autonomous and semir-autonomous bodies to provide list off all officers in BS-17 and above, along with their CNICs so that their status of filing of returns could be confirmed.

According to a circular issued by cabinet division on non-filing of income tax returns by civil servants working in various ministries/divisional /attached departments/ autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, stating that the Prime Minister had take a serious view of the trend of non-filing of income tax returns on the part of civil servants who are earning taxable income and not filing their tax returns.

The prime minister, therefore, directed that all secretaries of the ministries/division should issue directions to all officers working in their ministries/division to ensure that every officer earning taxable income must file his/her income tax return.

The prime minister also directed that the secretaries may consider application of measures such as linking filing of returns with honoraria /reward for their employees, if initial directions do not yield results.

The prime minister issued directives after a meeting with chairman of FBR.

All the ministries and divisions have been advised to submit report on the issue to the prime minister secretariat as well as FBR on monthly basis and first report should be submitted by January 15, 2018.
