SHC adjourns hearing of petition by construction company till Feb 1

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has adjourned hearing of a petition filed by Rising Construction Company seeking release of an imported vehicle till February 1.

A division bench had ordered Pakistan Customs on May 31, 2017 to release the vehicle in the presence of Nazir of SHC. Pakistan Customs allowed the release but Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) authorities refused to free the vehicle as demurrage worth Rs10 million have accumulated in the intervening period.

The customs show caused the KICT but they refused to reply and entertain the request on ground that they have an order of restraint passed by another bench of SHC. When the petition came up for hearing on Friday, Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen advocate appearing for the petitioner submitted that vehicle have been released in the past on payment of Rs100,000 to Rs200,000 as parking fee and hence in her case to the same be applied. The SHC, after hearing her fixed Feb 1 when controversy, would be solved finally.
