PESHAWAR: The importers and laborers in Peshawar have expressed great worries over the lack of basic facilities at the Dry Port Peshawar.

The local importers have to suffer a loss of millions of rupees due to unavailability of basic facilities like shelter to cover the goods laden vehicles and restrooms for the laborers.

The Customs Clearance Agents at the Dry Port Peshawar are also confronting massive troubles because the provincial government has imposed a two-percent more tax on them instead of giving relief to importers.

After the announcement of imposition of tax on the single item, many importers have shifted their consignments from Dry Port Peshawar to Azakheil Dry port due to which the customs exchequer faces a loss of millions of rupees every month.

The traders in Peshawar demanded that the customs high-ups should take notice of the lack of basic health facilities at the Dry Port in the provincial capital.

The importers added that, due to lack of proper shifting rooms, the pricy cars and goods remain exposed to the heat and dust which damage the articles of their consignments. Also due to lack of clean water at the Dry Port Peshawar, the laborers are forced to drink unhygienic water

One of the laborers said that, due to lack of interests from the customs officers, they themselves constructed a washroom and restrooms for which they have to pay rent to the railway department.

Nabi Ahmad, who works at the Dry Port Peshawar to empty containers, said we have been provided with no medical facilities and lighting for working at night.

The traders said the shifting of goods from Dry Port Peshawar to Dry Port Azakheil Nowshera will trouble the importers as this will make it dangerous to carry enough money from Peshawar to Nowshera rather than to shift the business to Azakheil Dry Port.
