Multan Customs adopts comprehensive strategy to curb smuggling attempts: Assistant Collector Zohaib Sandhila

MULTAN: The Customs Collectorate has given exceptional performance in the revenue collection by accomplishing assigned targets of every month due to team efforts in the on-going fiscal year 2017-18. This was stated by Assistant Collector Muhammad Zohaib Sandhila during his exclusive interview with Customs Today in his office on other day.

He told that Multan Customs collected 25% excess revenue in customs duty (CD) and 18 % surplus revenue in the sales tax (ST) collection during the existing fiscal year. The Customs Collectorate Multan accomplished allocated revenue tasks every month and achieved extra revenue due to effective planning.

Sandhila told that the Collectorate of Multan Customs has not only achieved its first and second quarter target of customs duty, sales tax and federal excise duty (FED).

However it has also surpassed with a huge margin of all federal taxes collection at import stage during the said period. Multan Customs has shown incredible revenue growth in collection of customs duty and sales taxes when compared with target during economic year 2017-18.

Assistant Collector said that the Collectorate of Customs was facing an uphill task to achieve the ambitious revenue collection target for 2017-18.

Multan customs revenue collection witnessed a major jump due to effective measure taken by Collectorate under well-organized administration. He told that revenue target has been achieved through a well-planned strategy, recovery plan and enforcement measures by the Multan customs during said period. Multan Customs has taken plenty of pragmatic and remarkable steps towards the improvement of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) anti-narcotics operations, passenger facilitation and imports/exports related functions.

In pursuance of Federal Board of Revenue, Multan Customs intensified the anti-smuggling operations in the jurisdictions and detected mega smuggling cases by adopting zero tolerance against smuggled goods.

He informed that special attention was given on the revamping of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) and anti-narcotics functions of the Collectorate to safeguard the jurisdiction from the evils of smuggling and contraband items in an effective manner.

Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization was re-organized and new staff was deployed at suspected places to frustrate smugglers in the region.

Moreover patrolling of anti-smuggling squads also been formulated with a specific focus to intercept the non-customs paid (NCP) vehicles and to protect the government exchequer.

Multan Customs curbed smuggling through effectively checking the inflow of all imported commodities by illegal means in the Jurisdiction. These measures have definitely, created a deterrence impact on the people involved in the smuggling of different kinds of high valued goods and it is quite evident from the recent remarkable performance of ASO.

Anti-Smuggling Organization has detected mega anti-smuggling seizure cases including QMobile, High Speed Diesel, White Spirit, contraband items and intercepted luxurious vehicles which is going towards gradual substantial rise.

The anti-smuggling activities played a key role in seizure of luxury vehicles and miscellaneous goods which resulted in contribution of revenue in the national exchequer and promoted legitimate trade in the region.

Multan Customs has also initiated export clearance of their consignments through WeBOC from Multan Dry Port to expedite clearance process. We appreciated the employees for their upright performance and discipline in their tasks to motivate them.
