The government has also approved the laying of two-km long new railway line between Gakhar and Gujranwala for facilitating the local traders and businessmen by ensuring the early transportation of their luggage. The Pakistan Railways (PR) will set up a new railway station at the site of this new dry port as well.

The construction work on this project will be started in March 2018 under the joint supervision of the National Logistic Cell (NLC) and Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI).

Both NLC and GCCI have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which the NLC will bear 70 percent of the total expenditures of this grand project and later will get 70 percent income to be generated through the Gujranwala Dry Port. The GCCI will bear 30 percent construction expenditures and also get a 30-percent income through this dry port in future.

According to President GCCI Saeed Taj, the GCCI will sell the shares of the Gujranwala Dry Port to its members, saying the GCCI has received about 175 applications from its members so far who want to buy the shares of this new dry port project, he added.
