Iran’s direct tax income rises to $10.5b in 8 months

TEHRAN: Iranian National Tax Administration Director Ali Askari announced that Iran’s direct tax income amounted to 370 trillion rials (about $10.57 billion) in the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-Novemebr 21), here the other day.

He added that tax and duty incomes account for about 50 percent of the national budget bill for Iranian calendar year 1394 (March 2015-March 2016), the Fars News Agency reported.

On June 16, Iranian Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Ali Tayyebnia said Iran’s economy is heavily dependent on oil revenues, which accounts for about 70 percent of the national budget in the current Iranian calendar year.

However, the government is determined to reduce dependence on oil through improving the tax system and the boosting of economic activities, he added.

On December 16, Iran’s government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said the government can manage the country even without oil revenues.
