SHC seeks remarks on petition filed by M/s Ahmed Brothers seeking restoration of NTN

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed customs officials to file their respective para wise comments on a constitutional petition filed by M/s Ahmed Brothers Private Limited seeking restoration of NTN blocked by customs authorities. A two-member bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar was hearing the petition.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that it is engaged in the lawful business in the name and style of M/s Ahmed Brothers and never involved in any illegal activity, however, officials of the customs authorities issued a show cause notice and suspended its NTN without any legal formalities. Counsel argued that it is seriously suffering from act of the customs officials and losses its business.

Citing Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, Collector of Customs Collectorate Appraisement West, Deputy Collector of Customs Collectorate Appraisement West, Bond Customs House Karachi, the appraising officer of Customs Collectorate Appraisement West Bond Customs House Karachi as respondents, he pleaded the court to declare the act of the respondents as illegal, mala fide and arbitrary.

He pleaded the court may suspend said impugned notification over suspension of NTN and restore it immediately, he also pleaded the court to restrain them from taking any coercive action against the petitioner till final order in this petition.
