KIEV: Ukraine was the lowest among all pulses, but it outstripped such ones as vetch and faba beans already in 2017.
According to preliminary information of the Ukrainian State Statistics Committee, lentil output in Ukraine increased four times in 2017. This surge in production was made possible due to a six-fold expansion of the crop’s planted acreage. So, Ukrainian farmers got the highest-ever harvest of lentils in 2017.
The lentil production upturn in the country is accompanied by an appreciable rise in exports of the commodity. Ukraine has boosted lentil exports 15 times over the last three seasons. Traditionally, Ukrainian exporters supply lentils mostly to the European Union, but they diversify their end markets as exports grow.
