FAISALABAD: A large number of cases are pending for decision at the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Faisalabad. These cases involve an amount of duties and taxes of millions of rupees. Most of the cases are pending before Collector and Deputy Collector for the last several months.

There seems to be pathetic lack of seriousness on the part of aforesaid officers. In this regard, it is pointed out that more than 75 cases are pending at the level of Deputy Collector. The details of 75 cases are of auto parts, shoes, chemical, dyed knitted fabrics, digital satellite receiver, grey fabrics, foreign origin perfume, black tea, carpets, matt, Dari, compressors, diesel generator and other miscellaneous items.

As regards collector adjudication, almost 15 cases involving duties and taxes of millions of rupees are pending at his level for a long time. The officer is not deciding the cases in time. As a matter of fact, aforesaid officers are not punctual and regular in the discharge of official duties.

It is pertinent to mention here that a case of M/s Supreme Tube Indus Ltd involving an amount of Rs321.05million is pending since 13.7.2017. This adversely reflects the performance of the collectorate.

The result is that more than 90 cases are pending for decision. The public is facing severe hardships due to unwarranted delay regarding the decision of cases. This maladministration is creating unnecessary problems for genuine respondents. Moreover, the department is suffering from timely receipt of revenue on account of this huge pendency.

The Faisalabad Customs Adjudication is concerned about continued inordinate and unwanted delay in their legal cases because huge amount of revenue involved jammed in these cases.

These undecided seizure and tax evasion cases of Faisalabad Customs are still under progress due to slow proceeding and unnecessary delay of cases at different forums. slow progress in pending legal cases has also badly affected the revenue collection process of the Model Customs Collectorate Faisalabad, Intelligence and Investigation Multan, Regional Office Faisalabad, Field Investigation Unit Khushab, Sargodha, and Anti-smuggling organization and huge amount of revenue collection is blocked due to their no adjudication proceeding.
