The anti-smuggling staff intercepted the said truckloads in the area of Dera Ghazi Khan which were coming from Balochistan.

The Anti-Smuggling Squad asked the drivers of the said vehicles to produce the import documents but they failed to show any proof of the import.

A thorough search of the trucks was conducted in the presence of the drivers which led to the recovery of 15 tons of foreign origin apples.

It is pertinent to mention here that half a US dollar per kilogram customs duty is imposed on import of foreign origin apples. The impounded apples will be sold out within two days through auction because it is a perishable item.

The anti-smuggling staff took into possession the foreign origin apples along with the vehicles under Section 168 of the Customs Act-1969.
