Appraisement East Karachi uncovers tax evasion of Rs08m in clearance of electronics

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate Appraisement East has unearthed a tax evasion of Rs08million in the clearance of new and used electronic items including juicer blenders, TV sets, different types of car tapes, cable-wires and other articles imported by M/s Farooqi Electronics Karachi.

Sources told CT that Collector Appraisement East Saeed Akram directed the R&D Section to verify the post-clearance consignment of importer M/s Farooqi Electronics Karachi.

During the scrutiny of import data, it was revealed that the importer willfully used the Green Channel in the clearance of the consignment of new and used electronics including mentioned above which caused the national exchequer a loss of Rs08million in terms of duties and taxes.

The sources further told CT that a recovery notice was sent to the importer before 14 days. The R&D sources said the importer has also assured the Customs Appraisement of depositing the evaded amount of Rs08million within 14 days.

Earlier, The Customs Collectorate Appraisement East had detected a tax evasion of Rs06.50million in the clearance of different types of marble cutting machines, polish machines, polish material, and different types of marble cutting blades imported by M/s Jafar Marble Accessories Karachi.

Source said that Collector Appraisement East Saeed Akram is giving instructions to the staff to verify the post-clearance consignment of the importers. During one month, the Customs Collectorate Appraisement East detected six cases between February 13 to March 13).
