KARACHI: A Sindh High Court has adjourned hearing of tiles import case till April 10.
A SHC appellate bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Agha Faisal, ordered counsel for Pakistan Customs to satisfy the court on law point in the case.
The bench earlier heard counsel from Franklin law Associates appearing for dozens of tile importers seeking exemption under SRO 497/2009 under which maximum duties are to the tune of 37. 5 per cent.
Kafeel Ahmed Abbasi advocate, counsel for Pakistan Customs opposing the petitions now around 150 in number was asked to satisfy on law point that can duties, taxes more than 37.5 per cent is allowed.
The counsel for petitioners relying on Ravi Spinning Mills case and Jadoon Textile Mills case said that Supreme Court of Pakistan has decided that departments cannot go beyond SRO if any exists.
