AMSTERDAM: In the first quarter of 2018, a record number of 61,530 used cars has been imported into the Netherlands, reports VWE Automotive. It is the first time more than 50,000 used cars have been imported into the country.
In all, 197,726 used cars were imported in 2017, a 17.5% increase. In January 2018, the number was 18,000 vehicles, another record.
Exports of used cars grew by 3.8%. In spite of this increase, imports are higher than exports for the first time.
Car importers are wary of the effects of WLTP on imports. Once WLTP has come into force, imports of young second hand cars might rise further.
