ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal has said no one can pull the strings of NAB and if someone tries to do so, he will quit.

“No one can pull the strings of NAB and if any such attempt is made, he will pick up his briefcase and leave,” said the anti-graft body chairman, while talking to the media after briefing the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the performance of the bureau.

To a question about pending cases, he said the anti-corruption inquiries’ process would be completed swiftly. “The NAB will take no biased action against anyone in its accountability process,” Javed Iqbal said, mentioning all corruption cases would be properly disposed of.

When asked to comment on the upcoming general elections, he said it was not the domain of the accountability bureau to watch matters related to the upcoming polls.

“We are not concerned about whether elections will take place or not. But, if someone commits corruption, it will thoroughly be examined,” the NAB chairman said.

To a question regarding former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, he made it clear that it was not his job to stop him from travelling abroad.

Meanwhile, talking to the media, PAC Chairman Khurshid Shah said the NAB chairman had made it clear that no political victimisation was being carried out. He said the NAB chairman would give another briefing to the PAC soon.
