Rawalpindi I&I seizes huge quantity of NDP goods worth Rs1.8m on Friday

RAWALPINDI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation on Friday seized huge quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs1.8 million during anti-smuggling drive.

While talking to Customs Today, Deputy Director Intelligence and Investigation Shahid Jan said that during anti-smuggling drive, the team recovered smuggled 6,600 kilogram of apples worth Rs2 million involving duty and taxes of Rs318,163 from a Suzuki vehicle. The accused identified as Qismat Ullah failed to produce any documentary evidence showing legal import or lawful possession of the goods. Upon violation of section 3(1) of the Import and Export (Control) Act. 1950, the team arrested the accused and seized the goods along with the vehicle having worth of Rs5 million and registered a case no. 21/2018 against him.

Shahid Jan further added that in another anti-smuggling operation, Customs I&I team recovered smuggled 1469 kilogram of cloth having worth of Rs8 million involving Rs490,365 of duty and taxes. Customs staff seized goods and arrested the accused named Jawed and registered case no. 19/2018.

Deputy Director Customs I &I mentioned that both the cases have been forwarded to adjudication department for further proceedings. Meanwhile, the anti-smuggling crackdown will be continued in the region, Shahid Jan concluded as saying.
