FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized the contraband coriander seeds worth Rs 4,95,000 involving duties and taxes amounting to Rs367274 besides impounding a Mazda truck valued at Rs8,00,000.
Sources told Customs Today that Assistant Collector Shah Samad Hamadani received a tip off that coriander seeds were being smuggled. He immediately constituted a team which intercepted a Mazda truck bearing registration no: FDK-4422 under section 157 of the Customs Act 1969. The officials, while searching the vehicle recovered 100 bags of foreign origin coriander seeds. The items were being transported from Quetta to Faisalabad and Lahore.
After recovering the items the customs staff asked driver Imran Khan to produce the documents regarding the legal possession of the item but he failed to do so.
The raiding staff was comprises Superintendent Tanveer Raza Naqvi, Inspector Muhammad Munir and Sepoys Afzaal Hussain, Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Anwar, Muhammad Yasin and Muhammad Dilawar.
