Seven importers challenge enhancement of valuation on import of ceramics & porcelain

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued notices to the Customs department and deputy attorney general on a constitutional petition filed by importers including M/s Super Impex, M/s Asiation International, M/s Hilal Impex against valuation ruling number 874/2016 for enhancement of valuation of import of ceramics and porcelain.

While hearing the petition, a two-member bench, headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi also directed them to file their respective para-wise comments on next date of hearing.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioners stated that they are lawful importers of above-mentioned goods and always fulfill all the legal requirements, in a rotten, they imported their above-mentioned goods and filed Goods Declaration (GDs) according to law; however, they were informed by the officials of the Customs department that their goods were assessed as per valuation ruling no 874/2016 without lawful authority.

Citing Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, Collector of Customs Collectorate East, Collector of Customs Collectorate West and Collector of Customs Collectorate Port Muhammad Bin Qasim as respondents, they pleaded the court to declare the act of the respondents as illegal, mala fide and arbitrary.
