KARACHI: The Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Monday directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against suspects namely Raheem Jan, Kareem Jan and Abdul Samad Bizanjo and others to be ascertained after investigation, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 25,000 liters HSD oil.
During the hearing, investigation officer of Anti-Smuggling Organization submitted First Information Report before the court and informed that on a credible information a team of customs officials intercepted the oil tanker near National Highway between Thatta-Kotri Road while the investigation was in process, a group of people loaded with weapons intercepted the oil tanker with the intention of snatching oil tanker, two persons among the group of people were came of spot and started abusing and threaten the staff of ASO to kill in case of not releasing the oil tanker.
He further informed the court that on that situation, deputy collector Hyderabad reached at spot, however, accused Raheem Jan and Kareem Jan managed to flee the crime scene along with the driver and helper.
Investigation officer argued that during the investigation, it is established that the HSD is smuggled one and has been brought into the country through illegal channel, therefore, 25,000 liters of HSD along with oil tanker being used for transportation of smuggled HSD oil been seized after issuing notice under section 171 of the Custom Act, 1969 to the owner of the goods and registered owner of the oil tanker as per registration book.
Case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 157 of the Custom Act, 1969 read with section 3 (1) of the Import & Export (Control) Act, 1950 punishable under clauses 8 (i) 85 & 89 of section 156 (1) of the customs act, 1969 and section 157 (2) ibid read with SRO 566(1)/2005 dated 06/06/2005.
