LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Farhat Ali has issued a show cause notice to the owner of non duty paid mobile phones on Monday.
Brief facts of the case as reported by ASO Superintendent that after receiving credible information that huge quantity of smuggled mobile phones were sent to Shah Alam Truck Adda from Electronics Market Lahore for booking. In pursuance of this information on 8.3.2018 at about 2 a.m. the customs staff reached near Shah Alam Chowk Lahore. One person unloaded the cartons from Qing Qi Rickshaw. On query he identified himself as Gulzar Ahmad resident of Burewala district Vehari. The said person told that mobile phones and accessories were packed in the said 30 cartons. The said person further stated the said were handed over to Mubashir.
Since proper arrangement for thorough examination of the said goods were not available on the spot, therefore, the said cartons were brought to Customs House. On examination the ASO team recovered 1066 mobile phones, while 1300 mobile accessories were also seized.
The official said owner Mubashir or any concerned person did not turn up to justify legal import or lawful possession of the said recovered mobile phones and accessories. In this situation, there were sufficient reasons to believe that the recovered mobile phones of foreign origin have been smuggled into the country in a clandestine manner evading payment of duty and taxes. The C&F value of seized mobile phones stood at Rs55,00,000 (approximately).
On the basis of above facts Additional Collector Farhat Ali issued a show cause notice to Mubashir Pandi of Hall Road and Gulzar Ahmad to appear in person on 30.5.2018 to explain their position with evidence, otherwise cases will be decided ex-parte.
