FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Saima Ayaz has decided a case of smuggled foreign-origin Rani juice and issued an order-in-original (ONO) No. 60/2018 in favor of the Faisalabad Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO).
Sources told Customs Today that the Faisalabad ASO during a raid recovered 297-crates of foreign-origin Rani juice worth Rs80,000 and asked owner Muhammad Ahmed to produce the documents showing the legal import of the items but he remained failed. So ASO officials impounded the Rani juice under Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act 1969. Later, the case was forwarded to the adjudication.
The adjudication authority had found the items smuggled as the owner of goods showed his willingness to pay duties and taxes leviable on the confiscated goods.
Deputy Collector Saima Ayaz ordered the seizure of goods in favor of the federal government under Section 156 (1) 90 of the Customs Act-1969. She further stated that since the impugned items are non-notified therefore a lenient view is taken and option under Section 181 of the Customs Act is given to the lawful owner to redeem his respective confiscated goods on the payment of duties and taxes leviable on goods plus a redemption fine of 20 percent of the customs value to be appraised by the Faisalabad Customs.
