ASO submits interim charge sheet in betel nuts smuggling case

KARACHI: Anti-Smuggling Organization Investigation Officer Azhar Malik submitted charge sheet against 7 suspects, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle betel nuts.

On Thursday, investigation officer submitted interim charge sheet and informed the court that on a credible information a team of customs officials intercepted a Mazda truck bearing registration number JY-580 near Gulbai and during the search found 4200 kilogram betel nuts from Mazda truck valuing Rs971,880, 25,480 kg betel nuts in crushed from godowns valuing Rs5, 896,072. 162, 500 kg betel nuts in whole from a godown valuing Rs7,602,500.

Investigation officer further informed the court that suspects namely Muhammad Javed son of Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Bilal son of Muhamad Javed and Durwaish son of Noor Parst are arrested, however, suspects namely Abdul Rehman, Nehmat Ullah, Suleman Abdul Rehman and Sarwar Khan are still absconders in this case and prosecution is trying its best for their arrest and they will be produced before the court when arrested.

Case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause 8 & 89 of section 156 (1) ibid read with section (i) of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950 and others related laws.
