NEW YORK: Chrysler would replace defaulted airbag pumps in about 3 million automobile, the newest huge recall stemming from defective airbags made by Japanese trader Takata Corp.
The recall affects a number of older Chrysler models, including the Dodge Ram, Dodge Durango, Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Charger, according to a company statement.
The recall affects 2.8 million vehicles in the United States, nearly 300,000 in Canada and roughly 65,000 in Mexico, according to the statement.

In October, a federal lawsuit filed in Los Angeles accused Takata Corp. of building millions of shoddy airbag inflators in a cost-cutting measure.
The suspect airbags were installed in vehicles made by Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Chrysler, Ford and BMW — with Hondas making up the bulk of the list — in various model years ranging from 2000 to 2008.
Vehicle owners concerned about their cars can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website and choose the “Search by VIN” option to use their car’s vehicle identification number to determine whether it is at risk.
