ISLAMABAD: The interior minister on Wednesday dismissed the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) plea to issue red warrants against deposed premier Nawaz Sharif’s sons Hassan and Hussain.
In light of the Avenfield reference verdict by the accountability court in Islamabad, the country’s anti-graft body approached the interior ministry to request for Interpol’s help in expediting Hassan and Hussain. However, the ministry rejected the request, claiming that it is incomplete.
The interior minister has also decided not to approach Interpol until all documents and evidence are in order. Both Hassan and Hussain were declared proclaimed offenders in the Avenfield reference case as they failed to appear for any of the hearings despite repeated summons from the bureau and court.
On July 6, the court sentenced Nawaz to ten years imprisonment, handing seven to daughter Maryam Sharif and one year to son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar.
The accused were also disqualified to contest election or to hold public office for a period of 10 years to be reckoned from the date they are released after serving the sentence and they shall not be allowed to apply for or to be granted or allowed any financial facilities in the form of a loan for a period of 10 years from the date of their conviction within the meaning of section 15 of NAO 1999.
