SHC seeks comments on bail petition filed by ex-officer KPT Haji Saparas

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed NAB officials to make sure filing their comments on a bail petition filed by Haji Muhammad Saparas, ex-officer of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) for after arrest bail, who is confined in Central Jail Karachi and booked in a case of irregularity fake appointments of KPT and other related departments.

On July 30, 2018, a two-member bench heard the matter, during the hearing, counsel for the petitioner stated in his petition that he is retired government officer in BS 19 and having excellent service record and his work has always been appreciated by his superior officers because of his extra ordinary performance.

He argued that the petitioner was informed through a call-up notice dated February 23, 2016 from the NAB in which official of NAB directed the petitioner to appear before an officer of the respondents and recorded their statements in respect of irregular appointment and acts of Rauf Akhtar Farooqui ex-General Manager Karachi Port Trust and issuance of letter dated Dec 12, 2012 conveying of directive of prime minister of Pakistan to KPT, PQA, PNSC and GPA for regularization of contractual employees’ after completing of  formalities.

He further argued that he appeared before the investigation officer and recorded his statement he said that petitioner has been singled out from entire ministry of ports and shipping, Islamabad and has been made as escape goat.

Counsel argued that petitioner is 68 years old and have undergone open heart surgery, his stitches are in bad condition and infection is continuing in the stitches, he is diabetic and also a patient of blood pressure and needs intensive care and hospitalization.

Citing Chairman NAB as respondent, he pleaded the court to grant him bail and release the petitioner from the prison in Karachi and revert the allegation which is mentioned in call up notice dated 23/02/2016.
