Peshawar Customs foils smuggling bid, seizes Saudi Riyalsm UAE Dirhams worth Rs26m

PESHAWAR: The Customs authorities have foiled a bid to smuggle foreign currency abroad and seized Saudi Riyals and UAE Dirhams worth Rs26 million and arrested one person.

The information was received through Collector Saeed Jadoon that attempt would be made to smuggle foreign currency to Dubai via PIA flight. Additional Collector Faiz Ali and Deputy Collector Najeeb Arjumand tightened monitoring of outgoing passengers at Bacha Khan International Airport.

During the course, a passenger identified as Shoib Hussain was spotted with the assistance of ASF. During the checking of the luggage of the said passenger Saudi 2,36,000 Saudi Riyals  and  6,02,000 UAE Dirhams were recovered. The accused could not provide any legal reason for possessing the money.

The currency has been seized and Shoib Hussain was arrested for further investigations.
