ISLAMABAD: Deputy Collector Saleha Zakir Shah has said that Islamabad Dry Port is providing the best facilities to businessmen to promote their business.

She expressed these views while talking to Customs Today. She said: “It is not easy to achieve our tasks without hard work, we have already achieved assigned revenue collection target under the head of customs duty (CD) during the month of July FY18-19; however, I am not satisfied with July’s revenue collection which should have been doubled.”

The deputy collector said that now she can view all areas of dry port through camera, which have been installed in examination area, entrance and exit points as well as parking and boundary wall of the port.

Saleha  showed her dissatisfaction on revenue performance, saying that the revenue can be collected more than targets if enforcement applied correctly and the IDP should also work on international standards.

“We have raised the issue of replacement of old cranes which are currently working at IDP to handle containers of 20 or 40 feet with the latest and brand new cranes, the matter has been taken with the Pakistan Railways which is custodian of IDP,” she said.

She added that some of the importers of glass goods products are not using IDP due to old cranes as they claim that these cranes can damage the precious imported glass goods.

She said that former Deputy Collector of Islamabad Dry Port Wajid Zaman developed very efficient environment of enforcement at IDP. She added that due to his efforts, weighbridge has been installed at IDP to facilitate businessmen.

The deputy collector said that IDP must have its own examination laboratory in its premises, which will also provide facility to Customs North region especially Customs Collectorate Gilgit Baltistan.
