FBR yet to issue notification about DGIR

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is yet to issue notification for power limitations and authorities of Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue (DGIR) even after its endorsement in Finance Act 2018-19 by the previous government.

Sources said that the previous government in the Finance Act 2018-19 has legalized the establishment of Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue and also specified its power and authorities.

However, the board has yet not issued notification in this regard due to which the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue is still not fully functional and causes shortfall and loss of revenue during previous Fiscal Year 2017-18.

Meanwhile, dozens of cases are also pending related to Inland Revenue due to non–functional of Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue, sources added.

Sources further added that the draft for the notification is prepared and ready to issue; however, it will be approved first from current finance minister Asad Umar.

After issuance of notification about the said directorate all actions tale earlier will be considered as legal while it will be in position to trail its pending cases in the court involving million of revenue.

It is important to mention here that the court has declared all action taken by Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue related to sales tax as illegal.
