Mianwali ASO seizes smuggled items during raid

MIANWALI: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization seized huge quantity of smuggled items worth Rs73,14,783 during a raid, it is learnt here.

Sources told Customs Today, that Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad received information regarding some smuggling attempts. He formed ASO team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Inspector Tanveer ul Haq, Amer Mumtaz Bajwa, Atif Mumtaz, driver Riasat Hussain, Sepoy Faiz Ahmad, Sher Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah.

The team intercepted a Nissan trailer bearing registration no C-2655 Swabi near Musa Khail bye-pass Mainwali. The ASO team recovered 777 kilograms foreign origin biscuit sugar free, 17798 kilograms Rani juice, Raisian brand pista, Caramel toffee 1677 kilograms, almonds with shell 2010 kilograms mixed fruit jam 200 kilograms, insect killer, 288 kilograms, milk cream 87 kilograms.

The officials asked the driver who was identified as Gulab Khan son of Gul Khan to produce documents regarding legal import of the goods. The driver produced a the bilty no: 397 issues by M/s Sitara Al Usman Goods Forwarding Agency showing full loaded from Quetta to Rawalpindi but he could not show the documents regarding the legal import.

After his failure, the ASO team seized the goods and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. Collector Aaif Mahmood Jah has appreciated the performance of the ASO teams which foiled various smuggled bids in the region.
