Customs Court seeks reply on bail petition filed by accused involved in betel nuts smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court issued notices to the special prosecutor of customs department on bail petition filed by Inayatullh son of Abdul Samad and Sadam Hussain son of Abdul Manan, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggled non-duty paid betel nuts.

On August 3, 2018, counsel for the above mentioned suspect moved bail petition and argued that prosecution claimed that on credible information, officials of the customs department intercepted Hino truck near Jabbar Shaheed Check Post Jacobabad and recovered 348 bags of 26,655 kilograms betel nuts valuing at Rs21,324,000 and 28 bags of 385 kilograms Indian gutka worth Rs577,500 from them.

He further argued that his clients are innocent and were falsely booked in this case. They are ready to face trial; therefore, court may grant them bail till final judgment in this case.

After the arguments, court issued notices to the customs officials and directed them to make sure filing of their comments on next date of hearing.
