KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects Asmat Ullah son of Abdul Ghafar and Abdul Ahad son of Dad Muhammad to Pakistan Coast Guards on physical remand, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 11250 kilograms betel nuts and other goods from Quetta to Karachi.
Court also directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.
On September 7, 2018, Investigation Officer Hafiz Muhammad Amir produced them before the court and informed that they received credible information that some culprits are trying to smuggle betel nuts and other goods from Quetta to Karachi, therefore, Pakistan Coast Guards team reached Super Highway Road for surveillance.
He submitted that on September 5, 2018, around 3 pm, team intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number TKS 870. He said that during the search, Coast Guards team recovered above mentioned goods from the truck and accused were asked to produce lawful documents of said goods, which they failed to produce.
Investigation officer further informed that Asmat Ullah is resident of Kali Barat old Chaman district Qilla Abdullah and Abdul Ahad is resident of Murda Caraiz Chaman and they were trying to smuggle said goods from Quetta to Karachi. He submitted that after the formalities both accused were arrested and said goods were also taken into custody.
He added that prosecution is trying to identifying real owner of the said goods therefore, court may grant their physical remand for further investigations. After hearing, court granted their physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) punishable under Section 156 (1) (8) (89) and 157 of the Customs Act, 1969.
