Customs Court issues NBWs against absconders booked in tax evasion case

KARACHI: The Customs Court issued non-bailable warrants against suspects namely Muhammad Ilyas, partner of M/s M.I Traders (importer) and Muhammad Hanif son of Muhammad Hussain (importer/partner of the firms), who were booked in a case of tax evasion.

On September 15, 2018, investigation officer informed the court that the above-mentioned suspects are still absconders and prosecution is trying its best for their arrest; therefore, the court may grant them more time for arrest.

After the hearing, court granted time and issued NBWs against them and directed investigation officer to arrest and produce them on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, credible information was received in R&D section (Intelligence & Investigation Unit) that M/s M.I. Traders have grossly mis-declared C&F value of the impugned goods submitting fake and fabricated import invoice & packing list and have succeeded in getting clearance thereof evading precious government revenue.

He submitted that during the investigation, it was revealed that actual transaction C&F value of the impugned goods is $39,707.66 as against $17,236.80 mis-declared by the importers in their under reference import goods declaration and supported with a fake import invoice.

He further informed that importers namely Muhammad Saleem son of Muhammad Hussain, Noor Ahmed son of Muhammad Hussain, Muhammad Ayaz Khan son of Sher Afzal have been arrested and are in jail.

As per FIR, a case was registered for evasion of duties and taxes through submission of fake and forged documents showing under invoiced/suppressed transaction value of the goods and violation of section 32A, 79, & 192 of the Customs Act, 1969.
