LAHORE: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) has said that the shortage of natural gas will continue for two more days and likely to end till Tuesday (tomorrow).
According to a SNGPL official, the boiler at Sui plant, which caught fire on Saturday, is being repaired and it will take further 24 to 36 hours for completion.
The shortage of gas, which is now hovering around 1.75billion cubic feet or 60 percent of total demand, has left most homes without gas. People complained that they were unable to prepare even a cup of tea due to gas outage.
Meanwhile, the provincial capital of Balochistan, Quetta, and other parts of the province are without gas supply for the last 24 hours. Normally, gas pressure drops with the advent of winter.
As per details, a fault developed in the boiler of gas purification at Sui two days ago and supply was affected from this plant to Balochistan, Sindh.
A supply of 110mmcfd was affected. Major parts in provincial capital and other parts of the province had either low pressure or no gas at all. Somewhat supply was available form Zarghun field which was contributing 50mmcfd.
SSGC sources said that another 50mmcfd would be added to the system from this plant. Due to suspension of gas from Sui plant, gas to 30 percent of industries in Sindh has been cut off. Similarly, gas supply to thermal power plant, Habibullah Coastal Power plant in Quetta has also been stopped.
