Customs ASO foils bids to smuggle mobile phones, accessories, betel nuts

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization foiled an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of non-customs paid goods on Monday.

Sources told Customs Today, that Additional Deputy Collector Tayyaba Kiyani received secret information about smuggling attempt. She immediately constituted a team under the supervision of Deputy Collector Muhammad Moazzam Raza which also includes Superintendent Agha Qadeer Haider and others.

The ASO team intercepted a Toyota Prius car bearing registration no: ABV-553-ICT-Islamabad which was coming from Peshawar. During checking of vehicle the ASO team recovered huge quantity of mobile mobiles and 295 mobile accessories. The driver of the vehicle failed to provide any relevant documents regarding transportation of mobile phones and accessories.

During another operation the same team intercepted a truck bearing registration no FDO-5639 and recovered non-customs paid 80 bags of betel nuts. Each bag contain 65 kilograms of betel nuts.

The ASO team also comprising Inspector Mansoor Elahi, Inspector Azam Wattoo, Inspector Maratab Mushtaq and Inspector Shahid  Bhatti take part in the operations. Separate cases has been registered against smugglers and further investigations are under way
