The director general went on to say that they were striving hard to resolve sham housing schemes on a priority basis. The housing sector is meant to serve the masses instead of earning huge profits. NAB will take strict action against such fraudulent schemes, he maintained.

Saleem said that the Khayaban-e-Amin Housing Society administration has been directed to deliver plots and houses to those affected by December 31.

NAB has put special measures in place to bring about improvements in the housing sector including establishing a preventative committee to deal specifically with housing societies. The preventative committee consists of officials from Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), Developers and Registrar Cooperative, he elaborated.

During the initial proceedings, NAB sought a record of all the illegal housing schemes from LDA. Around 700 housing schemes surfaced within the provincial capital while officials were directed to resolve matters at 175 housing societies and schemes, including their pending no-objection certificate (NOCs) with the authority.

Further, NAB is also taking action against those housing societies which do not exist after collecting the relevant information from departments concerned, the DG added. He expressed that NAB has recovered Rs297 billion from accused and had submitted the money to the national kitty during a period of 19 years.
