Customs Court approves physical remand of suspected betel nuts smuggler

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent a suspect namely Muhammad Imran, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non duty paid 2486 kilogram betel nuts, to Pakistan Coast Guard on physical remand.

On October 04, 2018, investigation officer produced the above-mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on credible information, a team of Pakistan Coast Guard intercepted Ayaz Coach bearing registration no: DGS-745 and during the search, team recovered 2486 kilogram betel nuts.

He submitted that during the search, driver namely Muhammad Imran was asked to provide lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents; therefore, goods were seized and suspect was also taken into custody.

He said that prosecution needs further investigations from suspect for arrest of owner of said goods; therefore, court may grant his physical remand. After hearing the arguments, court granted his physical remand and sent him on physical remand.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against the above-mentioned suspect for violation of Customs Act, 1969 and other related laws.
