KARACHI: The Customs Court granted pre-arrest bail to Jahan Khan son of Qamarddin, proprietor of M/s Jahan Khan & Sons and Ghuam Shabbir son of Meeral Khan, who were booked in four cases of attempting to smuggle kerosene oil in the garb of white spirit.
On October 10, 2018, counsel for the accused moved bail applications and argued that his clients are innocent and were falsely implicated in this case, who are ready to face trail; however, they have apprehension of arrest.
After the hearing the arguments, court granted their bail against the surety of Rs100,000 each and issued notices to customs department and prosecutor for customs department on next date of hearing. The court also directed customs officials to appear before the court on next date of hearing.
According to investigation officer of Directorate General of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR Hyderabad, 4 first information reports (FIRs) were lodged against the above-mentioned accused and others and informed that on actionable information, a team of customs officials intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number: TUA-596 and recovered kerosene oil.
He further submitted that during the investigations, it was revealed that the above-mentioned suspects imported kerosene oil in the garb of 28,950 kilogram white spirit and evaded the duty and taxes to the national exchequer.
Case was registered against them by Intelligence Officer Syed Shafiq Ali for violation for mis-declaration of description and HS code of kerosene oil smuggled in the garb of white spirit in violation of import restriction vide S# 2 of Appendix-B (part-II) to IPO, 2016 as the importer is not an approved oil marketing company (OMC) and Section 2 (s) 16, 32 (1)(2) 169 of the Customs Act, 1969 and other customs related laws.
