Multan Customs seizes red chilli seeds worth Rs10m near Khanewal

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Region seized red chilli seeds worth Rs 10 million along with container and vehicle being used for transportation of the smuggled items in their action

Deputy Director Khial Muhammad Khan told Customs Today that he received information regarding smuggling of red chilli seeds from his source. He immediately formed a special team comprising Inspector Haq Nawaz, Inspector Muhammad Umer , Zulfiqar, Shakeel ur Rehman and others.

Following the directions of Deputy Director Customs Intelligence, the team intercepted a suspected container loaded with huge quantity of red chilli seeds near Khanewal region and recovered 21000 kilograms of Indian origin red chilli seeds. The red chilli seeds were being transported to Faisalabad.

Customs Intelligence asked the driver to produce documents showing the legal import of the recovered items. But he could not produce any documents relating to its legal import or lawful possession, therefore, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation officials seized the red chilli seeds along with container and their vehicle under Customs Act 1969.

 

Customs Intelligence and Investigation team shifted the seized goods in the Multan Camp Office. The net worth of seized red chilli seeds is Rs10 million. Further investigations against the owner of red chilli seeds are still under way till the filing of this report.
