Customs Court seeks reply on bail plea filed by female mobile phones smuggler

KARACHI: The Customs Court issued notices to special prosecutor and investigation officer of customs department on post-arrest bail petition filed by suspect woman namely Seema Rauf wife of Abdul Rauf, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid foreign-origin mobile phones and memory cards worth Rs5,809,413.

On October 15, 2018, counsel for the accused filed post-arrest bail petition and argued that his client is innocent and is falsely implicated in this case, who is ready to face trail; therefore, court may grant her bail till final judgment in this case.

It needs to be mentioned here that the suspect is on physical remand.

Earlier, investigation officer produced the woman before the court and informed that on credible information, the suspect was intercepted at International Arrival Hall, JIAP, who had arrived from Dubai through Emirate flight no: EK-608 and she was asked to get her body and luggage searched.

He further informed that court that during the search, customs officials found 11 iPhones-7 used worth Rs541,200.03, iPhone-X new Rs369,000 and 36,000 memory cards worth Rs4,899,213 from a pair of black color crepe bandage and one black color polyester swimming costume Speedo brand, worn by the woman for concealing mobile phones and memory cards.

He submitted that prosecution needs further investigations from her for arrest of other culprits; therefore, court may grant her physical remand. After the hearing, court had granted her physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce her before the court on next date of hearing.
