19 people imprisoned over drug smuggling charges

KABUL: The Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) sentenced 19 people from one to 13 years in prison over drugs related offenses.

A statement from the CJTF received by Pajhwok Afghan News said the convicsts included a woman and they were sentenced from one to 13 years in jail by the primary and appellate courts of the CJTF during the last one week.

Drugs recovered from the convicts included 214 kilograms of heroin, eight kilograms of opium, 1,026 kilograms of hashish, more than 663 grams of crystal myth, more than 2kg of Tablet K, 1,390 liters of itanol and 3,330 liters of alcohol.

They had been detained from different parts of the country, the statement said.

Eight of the convicts wanted to traffic drugs in their stomach and bags via the Kabul Airport to India, but they were identified and arrested by police, the source said.

The CJTF said the other suspects were arrested from Kabul, Kandahar, Balkh, Herat and Bamyan provinces.

Police also recovered 35,000 afghanis and 8,580 USD, 15 sets of mobile phones and a vehcile from the individuals.
