Customs Court sends suspect to jail booked in betel nuts smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect Muhammad Dawood to Central Jai on judicial remand, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle betel nuts, cigarettes, gutkha and other contraband goods.

On November 02, 2018, investigation officer produced the above mentioned accused and informed the court that on a actionable information, a team of Customs Preventive raided Railway Wagon and found 4275 kilogram betel nuts, 150 dandas L&M cigarettes, 450 dandas Davidoff Light cigarettes (Genova), 100 dandas Benson & Hedges cigarettes (London), 450 dandas Mond Super Slim Filter cigarettes, Green Apple & Cherry, 15 kilogram Safina brand Gutkha, 120 kilogram One-2-One gutkha worth Rs5,666,250.

He further informed the court that during the search, accused was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to provide any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, accused was taken into custody and case was registered against him and others.

After the hearing, court sent above mentioned accused to jail on judicial remand, case was registered violation of Section 2 (s) 156(2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 and other related laws.
