Additional Collector Asma Hameed orders to impound Hino truck

FAISALABAD: The Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Asma Hameed has issued Order in Original (ONO) in favour of the field Customs intelligence unit FIU Sarai Muhajir while deciding a case of non duty paid Hino truck.

Sources told Customs Today that a team of Customs I&I following information received through Deputy Director Rana Irfan Shouqat intercepted a used Hino truck with bearing registration no: OKS-15-1006 near Chowk Sara-i-Muhajir.

The driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Muhammad Faisal Habib was asked to show documents regarding the legal import of the vehicle but he remained fail to produce the import documents. Therefore, the staff impounded the vehicle under Section 2(s) and 16 of the Customs Act 1969.

Later, the FIU Sara-i-Muhajir team sent its chassis for forensic test. The report clarified that present chassis number according to lab report no 1653/2108 dated 17-08-2018 is not original as it is tempered with. The officials sent the case to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.

However, no one appeared to defend the case from respondent side and no any written reply was submitted before the adjudication. While Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir appeared from the prosecution side and asserted that the seized vehicle fell under the ambit of Section 2(s) of the Customs Act 1969.

Therefore, Additional Collector Asma Hameed has issued ONO 122/2018 in favour of the FIU Sara-i-Muhajir and ordered to impound the vehicle under Section 156(1) 89(i) of the Customs Act read with clause (a), of the preamble of SRO 499(1) 2009.
