Customs Preventive busts smuggled betel nuts consignment at KICT

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive recovered huge quantity of smuggled betel buts worth millions of rupees after a successful raid at Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT).

According to the details, Deputy Collector Customs Preventive Muhammad Faisal Khan received authentic information regarding the smuggling of huge quantity of betel nuts through Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in container at Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT).

Deputy Collector Customs Preventive Muhammad Faisal Khan along with Customs Appraisement West team and port administration examined the container and found consignment of huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts weighing 27 tons worth millions of rupees.

Sources informed that the consignment of smuggled betel nuts has been taken into the custody and an FIR has been lodged against importer whereas further investigations are underway.

It is worth mentioning here that after failing to smuggle betel nuts through rail routes and road routes, now the sea route has been chosen by them to smuggle the betel buts. The smuggled consignment had to be transferred to different parts of the metropolitan city. The consignment of the betel nuts is said to be worth millions of rupees in the market.
