Customs Court approves remand of suspects involved in mobile phones smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Umair Muhboob Hussain, Muhammad Anus and Muhammad Asghar to jail on judicial remand, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggled non duty paid foreign origin mobiles phones etc.

On November 7, 2018, investigation officer produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on the intervening night of October 29/30, 2018 while the undersigned was performing his duties at the Customs Examination Hall, International Arrivals, JIAP Karachi.

The above-mentioned three suspects holding Pakistani passports arrived through Emirates Airlines were intercepted at red channel and brought to the customs examination counters where the undersigned asked the above-said passengers to hand over the traveling documents, their passports and air passage tickets.

He further submitted that during the search of their baggage, customs officials found 204 Motorola mobile phones, 350 packets Atrovent 500mcg/2cl Unit Dose Vials (an allopathic medicine), 140 tubes Century’s brand metal marker ink (an Indian manufactured article), 20 carbon brush set, 200 mobile batteries and others goods worth Rs3,000,000.

Investigation officer further submitted that during the search, they were asked to provide lawful documents of above-smuggled goods, however, they failed to provide any lawful documents, therefore, they were arrested and goods also were taken into custody.

After the hearing, court sent them to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against them on next date of hearing. Court also directed to jail authorities to produce above mentioned accused before the court on next date of hearing.
